Tate & Lyle Demerara Sugar
Demerara Sugar
Demerara sugar is a type of cane sugar that is minimally processed and retains some of the natural molasses that is present in the sugar cane. Demerara sugar has a light brown colour and large crystals, and it has a slightly caramelized flavour that is different from other types of sugar.
Demerara sugar is often used as a sweetener in baking and cooking, particularly in recipes where a more robust flavour and texture are desired. It can also be used as a topping for oatmeal or other breakfast foods, as well as in coffee or tea. Due to its larger crystal size and unique flavour, Demerara sugar is often used in speciality coffee shops as a topping for espresso drinks.
While Demerara sugar is less processed than white sugar, it is still a form of added sugar and should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
